On December 22, the unveiling ceremony of the Joint Laboratory of Chip Semiconductor Artificial Intelligence, co-established by Guangzhou Top-leading Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. and South China University of Technology, was held at the School of Software Engineering of South China University of Technology(SSE SCUT). Both parties have reached a broad consensus on integrating industry and education, jointly building laboratories, technological innovation, and talent cultivation, promoting deeper cooperation.
Qin Yexia, Deputy Director of Cooperation and Transformation Department of the Institute of Science and Technology of SCUT, pointed out that the university always adheres to the "triple innovation" (innovation, creation, entrepreneurship) talent cultivation goals. They focus on precisely meeting enterprise needs in talent cultivation, effectively solving key technical challenges, serving the high-quality development of the economy and society, and exploring new models of university-enterprise cooperation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. This joint laboratory is an important measure in response to the integration development of industry, education, and research. Through university-enterprise cooperation and joint innovation, the lab aims to apply cutting-edge technologies in specific scenarios to solve practical problems, promoting the transformation of scientific achievements and providing students with innovative practice opportunities.
Zou Wei, Chairman of Guangzhou Top-leading Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd., expressed his delight in establishing a partnership with South China University of Technology. "We hope that through the joint establishment of the Chip Semiconductor Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, we can jointly carry out industry-academia-research projects and promote technological innovation." Since its establishment, Top-leading Intelligent has continuously innovated or collaborated in industry-academia-research to break through key common technologies in the industry, continuously aiding domestic semiconductor component manufacturers in accelerating the process of domestic substitution. Through cooperation with South China University of Technology, Top-leading Intelligent hopes to fully leverage the university's strong research strength and platform advantages to actively carry out technical research and development in the joint laboratory, train high-level scientific and technological talents, accelerate the transformation of innovative achievements, and strive to create a model of university-enterprise cooperation.
"The joint establishment of the laboratory is of great significance, not only as an important measure to enhance the original innovation capability in the chip semiconductor artificial intelligence field but also as a specific practice related to insisting on the strategy of technology innovation-driven development and promoting high-quality development of enterprises," said Liu Fei, Vice Dean of SSE SCUT. Established in 2001, the SSE is one of the first batch of national demonstrative software schools, with a rich and high-level teaching and research team. The school is currently preparing to establish an Industrial Software Center to provide opportunities for exchange and learning between enterprises and the university, promoting a virtuous cycle of industry-education-research cooperation and creating a first-class scientific research platform.
At the unveiling ceremony, Wu Qingyao, professor of SSE, introduced his research team and detailed the cooperation method, goals, funding, and research content of the "Chip Semiconductor Artificial Intelligence Joint Laboratory." He pointed out that the semiconductor industry is a national strategic development direction, and the establishment of the joint laboratory is to better promote technological innovation and industrial upgrading in the semiconductor field. Deep cooperation between academia and industry will greatly promote the development of new-generation chip technology.
“Through the joint laboratory platform, we hope to deeply integrate the resources of the school and the company, cooperate in innovation, and expect to realize the application of research and development achievements in Top-leading, promoting technological innovation, and cultivating high-quality talents with innovative R&D and practical hands-on abilities for the semiconductor industry," Professor Wu Qingyao said. Both parties will build a chip semiconductor surface defect detection data processing, training, and deployment platform based on the joint laboratory, apply software achievements to the actual production environment, bring substantial improvements to production, and accelerate the industrialization of scientific and technological achievements.
