Although natural language has always played an important role in the fields of society, economy and national security, the natural language understanding and cognitive ability of computers has been far less than that of human beings. In recent years, with the continuous popularization of the mobile Internet and the rapid development of related platforms and technologies such as cloud computing, big data, GPU, and deep learning, we are increasingly feeling that breakthroughs in natural language processing are coming. This report will explore how to improve natural language processing capabilities from two levels: natural language understanding and cognition, which includes: the essential features of natural language, a brief introduction to linguistic theory (structuralist linguistics, transformational grammar, formal linguistics, functional linguistics, cognitive linguistics), the foundation of natural language understanding, and the foundation of natural language cognition (cognitive science) , cognitive linguistics).
