On the evening of Oct 9, the 41st WorldSkills Competition came to an end in London. As the only representative on the China team to participate in the item of CAD mechanical design, WEI Junyang, a student from mechanics innovative class of Grade 2009 in School of Mechanical & Automotive Engineering, won Excellence Award with his outstanding performance.
WEI, well accomplished in CAD mechanical design, has been successively awarded the third prize of Individual All-around and the second prize of Group in Guangdong Drawing Contest as well as the first prize of Individual All-around and Group in that of state level.
It is learnt that as the only international competition for occupational skills held by WorldSkills International, the WorldSkills Competition is held every two years and is hailed as the Olympic Games for skilled workers. China entered WorldSkills International in Oct, 2010. This contest was the first one for China's team, which had participated in 6 items of CAD mechanical design, numerically controlled lathing, numerically controlled fraise machining, hairdressing, web design and welding. China's contestants had a keen competition with 944 young counterparts from 51 teams from around the world, and had their first victory by winning 1 Silver and 5 Excellence Awards, ranking 2nd in the list of total average points.
