Recently, the Second Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area University Students' International Communication Works Competition concluded successfully at the East Campus of Sun Yat-sen University. Two teams from our college achieved excellent results in the competition. The contest was jointly organized by the School of Journalism and Communication at Sun Yat-sen University and the South International Communication Center(South). It attracted 277 teams from 49 universities across China and received 210 valid entries. After a rigorous selection process, 45 winning entries were ultimately chosen.

Award-winning team members
A student team from the Class of 2024 won the Third Prize in the Written Reports category for their work Cross-Border Elderly Care: Where Does Heart Find Belonging? The team members were Meng Xu and Ruihan Jiang from Journalism, Yutong Wu from Communication, and Xiaosong Zhou and Jieyu Zhu from Advertising.
The work focuses on elderly people involved in cross-border care within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Through real-life stories, it presents the living conditions and emotional experiences of older adults after returning to their hometowns. With a humanistic perspective, the report portrays their quiet journey between homeland, family ties, memories and new lives, offering both social observation and emotional depth.

Award-winning team members
A student team from the Class of 2024 won the Third Prize in the Integrated Media category for their work When the Lion Drums Beat, the World Dances: The Intangible Heritage of Lion Dance in Foreign Eyes. The team members were Xinyu Liang, Yuanyuan Wang, Mingjing Zhang and Jiaqi Liu from Journalism.
The work focuses on the cross-cultural communication of lion dance, a form of Chinese intangible cultural heritage, on overseas short-video platforms. Drawing on global audience feedback and communication data, it analyzes how traditional folk culture can transcend linguistic and cultural barriers through its borderless visual appeal, becoming a vivid medium for cultural exchange between China and the world. It also provides a useful reference for the international communication and revitalization of intangible cultural heritage.

Both award-winning compositions were completed under the guidance of Associate Professor Jizhou Wang. These awards demonstrate our students’solid professional competence and strong international communication awareness of our students. Moving forward, the College will continue to strengthen journalism and communication education, guide students to engage with social realities, enhance their creative abilities, and contribute to telling the stories of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to the world.
