On October 15, Shanghai Ranking, a leading higher education evaluation institution, officially released its “2024 Best Chinese Subjects Rankings.” The rankings encompass 94 first-level disciplines and include the top 50% of universities in each discipline. The School of Journalism and Communication at South China University of Technology once again placed in the top 12% of the rankings, marking two consecutive years of steady and positive growth.
In recent years, the school has leveraged the university’s robust foundation in engineering, upheld the philosophy of “arts-engineering integration,” and actively explored the “new liberal arts” model in journalism and communication studies. With strong support from the university and the concerted efforts of faculty and students, the school has achieved notable progress in talent cultivation, academic research, social engagement, and infrastructure development.
Looking ahead, the school will continue to strengthen its disciplinary foundations, promote talent cultivation, deepen interdisciplinary integration, and cultivate distinctive research directions and areas, thereby contributing to the sustainable development of journalism and communication studies.
