The School of Journalism and Communication of the South China University of Technology was founded in 2004. Currently, there are four departments and two centers, namely, the Department of Journalism and Communication, the Department of Brand Communication, the Department of Audio-Visual Communication, and the Department of Network Communication, as well as the Experimental Teaching Center and the Humanities Quality Education Center. There are three undergraduate majors--journalism (integrated media news direction), communication (network-and-new media direction, audio-visual communication direction), advertising (brand communication direction). We also recruit undergraduate students for the experimental class of our international joint education program (a 2 + 2 double-degree program jointly with the School of Journalism, the University of Missouri). We have a master's degree authorization point for the first-level discipline of journalism and communication and a master's degree authorization point for journalism and communication. In addition, we have also set up three doctoral enrollment directions of Marxist Journalism and communication research, organizational communication and management and emergency management. At present, we are applying for the doctoral degree authorization point for the first-level discipline of Journalism and communication.

In terms of specialty setting and talent training, the school of Journalism and communication makes full use of the engineering advantages of the South China University of technology, always adheres to the road of differentiated and characteristic development, and explores cross-development of arts, science, and engineering. We are committed to strengthening discipline integration and industrial cooperation externally, promoting the development of industry-university research integration, internally strengthening the top-level design of discipline planning, and paying attention to discipline construction and talent education and training. We are among the first universities to set up the major of brand communication in China, focusing on the development of new fields such as data news, computing advertising, and health communication. We have formed characteristic research directions such as news-history theory, new media communication, brand communication, and cross-cultural communication. In 2021, the School of Journalism and Communication will receive a total of 4 general projects of the National Social Science Fund and 1 key project funded by the National Social Science Fund.
