Wei Yang is Professor in the School of Journalism and communication at The South China University of Technology. She holds a Master’s degree in Chinese linguistics from Hunan Normal University, and a Ph.D. in Applied linguistics from Jinan University. From Summer 2016 to Autumn 2017,She worked as a Senior Visiting Scholar at the Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey, USA.
Her research activities include the research of Global Cultural Industry, new media communication, Chinese sociolinguistics ,and historical linguistics.
Her current research projects are 1.new media communication mode and new media industry .2.new media and social development (specially on digital divide in the perspective of Communication and Sociology)3.extensive fieldwork experience investigating dialects and culture of Hunan and Guangdong provinces in China. She has received many grants and awards to support her scholarship, including
Guangdong Humanities and Social Science Planning Project, Guangdong Support for the publication of outstanding achievements in philosophy and social sciences, etc.

Professor Yang undergraduate courses are “An introduction to cultural and creative industries”, ”Fiction and nonfiction writing”, her graduate courses are “The Observation on new phenomenon of cultural industry”.” The theory and practice of semiotics”.
