On the morning of Sep. 28, a lecture given by Prof. Martin Jacques was held in B9 101, south campus. The theme of the lecture was When China Rules the World. Zhao Hong, vice president of School of Journalist and Communication, was present at the lecture.
Prof. Martin is an English scholar who has keen interest in China. He is a columnist of The Guardian and The New Statesman and has visited Renmin University of China, London School of Economics and Political Science, Aichi University (Japan) and National University of Singapore.
Prof. Martin began his lecture with a quotation from Napoleon, “China is a sleeping lion in the East”. It revealed the theme of the lecture——to waken the sleeping lion in the East. Prof. Martin remarked that the western economic and political system which prevailed nowadays would be shaken, or even replaced with China’s rise.
The lecture lasted for one hour and a half. At the end of the lecture, to help the students have a better understanding of his theory and the upcoming “China Era”, Prof. Martin held a book signing of his book, WHEN CHINA RULES THE WORLD：the rise of the middle kingdom and the end of the western world.
