SCUT Students win top in the 1st NUSWCC

Established in July 2004, School of Journalist and Communication(SJC) has a faculty of 56, of whom 45 are lecturers, including 11 professors and 16 associate professors (one of whom is a foreigner); 20 of the lecturers have Ph.D. (one of whom is from Europe). What’s more, SJC has 2 consulting professors(Yang Weiguang, former manager of CCTV and Jim, dean of School of Communication of Boston University), 1 professor emeritus(Thai Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn), 1 professor of “Hundred Talents”(Chan Kwok-ming, professor of Communication Studies University of Rhode Island), 27 adjunct professors(of whom 23 are the managers of major media in southern China).The total value of teaching & laboratory equipments and library resources is 9,000,000 yuan and 600,000 yuan, respectively. The area of administrative and experimental place is 3063 square meters.

    The School of Journalist and Communication has 4 departments: Department of Journalism and Communication, Department of Cultural Communication, Department of Brand Communication and Department of Communication Arts. It also has 2 centers: Teaching and Experiment Center and Humanistic Education Center.

  There are 4 majors for undergraduate students: Communication(The Area of Cross-media News), Editing and Publishing(The Area of the Network of Communication and Electronic Publishing), Advertising(The Area of Brand communication) and Digital Media Arts; 4 majors for postgraduate students: Journalism, Communication, Aesthetics and Chinese Philosophy. In association with School of Computer Science & Engineering and School of Software Engineering, SJC admits postgraduate students of Software Engineering (The Area of New Media). Furthermore, SJC has been cooperating with the School of Business Administration to establish an area of “Media and Brand Management”. What is more, SJC works together with School of International Education to construct a Cross-Cultural Communication Research Center. This college also has some other research institutes, including Hakka Cultural Institute, Media Institute of Southern China, Brand Institute and so on.
