Chu Dongai

Chu Dongai
She joined South China University of Technology in 1995 and is currently a professor and master's supervisor in the School of Journalism and Communication. Her main research areas are folk culture and folk art, with expertise in festival customs, oral history, and fieldwork. For many years, she has been committed to exploring a model of urban development that preserves traditional cultural characteristics and urban cultural diversity, as well as modern urban lifestyles, through a combination of desk research, fieldwork, and video documentation. She has been actively involved in the process of constructing local culture through collaboration between the government, local intellectuals, folk culture inheritors, media, and the public. In recent years, her research has focused on urban folk culture, the inheritance, protection, and dissemination of intangible cultural heritage, and oral history. Her teaching areas include communication writing, aesthetic psychology, visual folklore, cultural and creative industries, and Chinese folk culture.

She is a council member of the Chinese Folklore Society, the Chinese Higher Education Film and Television History Society, the Chinese Anthropology Folk Culture Research Professional Committee, a researcher at the Chinese Folklore Culture Industry Research Center, vice chairman of the Guangdong Provincial Folk Literature and Art Association, and a member of the Expert Committee for the Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Guangdong Province.
