Abstract:
I will start by giving an overview of active research activities in my research group located at University of Maryland Energy Research Center (UMERC). Then I will focus on wood cellulose nanostructures for solar cells, batteries and other energy applications. I will discuss: (1) the fundamental properties of wood cellulose nanofibers and nanocrystalls; (2) various types of nanostructures based on nanocellulose and their optical, mechanical, and ionic properties; (3) high-performance, low-cost energy devices, including Li-ion and Na-ion batteries, nanostructures solar cells, energy efficient lighting and structural light-weight materials with a potential to replace steel.
