April 14, the sub-forumof "Outstanding Young Scholars Forum" of South China University of Technologywas held successfully at the 306 Conference Room of the State Key Laboratory of Pulp and Paper Engineering, School of Light Industry and Engineering. Dr. ChunlinXu fromFinland Abo Akademi University,Dr.XiumeiGengfrom University of Arkansas in United States, Dr. PanChen from Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden, Dr. QingbinZheng from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and Dr.Xingwei Shi fromUniversity of Albertain Canada were invited. Approximately 50 teachers and students in the school attended this forum.
The forum was chaired by the Deanof School of Light Industry and Engineering, Prof.FachuangLu. The five scholarsgave a series of presentations regarding to the preparation of the plant derivatives for novel functional materials, the application of graphene based materials in the field of energy, the research about natural cellulose crystal, the application of carbon materials such as graphene and carbon nanotubes in thin films, flexible functional materials based on cellulose etc., and deeplydiscussedthese topics with academic staff and students. After the forum, the five young scholars were invited by different research teamsandfurther exchanged their understandingon similar research interests.
The project of “Outstanding Young Scholars Forum" ofSouth China University of Technology was firstly launched in November 2015. This forum aimsto invite young talents withdifferent academic backgrounds around the world to discuss and communicate the advances aboutinternational scientific frontier, hot research field as well as industrial technology etc. This platform will definitely inspire each other, widen the sight of researchers, enhance international exchanges and cooperation, andpromote development of the two sides.
