Professor Carl Mitcham made a speech titlede: “Engineering Ethics: What Ethics Does to Engineering and What Engineering Does to Ethics”. He illustrated the interactions between engineering and ethics. All teachers and students attended the lecture.

Content of the report is divided into two main parts. The first part reviews the development of the professional engineering ethics and its affects on engineering. Professor Carl Mitcham introduced origin of western militaryproject and the development of engineering ethics. Based on the philosophical analysis of engineering ethics, professor Carl Mitcham said the basic question of engineering ethicsis: what is the ideal target of engineering? What is the ideal public good (such as the health of medical or law of justice)?
For these two issues, the professor gave three answers: loyalty. Without loyalty, society will collapse. Effectiveness and efficiency are important value of engineering. InUnited States, the governance efficiency or effectiveness has been judged; the engineer shall remain public safety, health and welfare as the most important things. The second part introduces technology must be self-consistent in ethics.
Professor Carl Mitcham is the international famous philosophers, whose ideas about technology philosophy draws domestic scholar's attention. In today's globalization, a series of high-tech represented by artificial intelligence made the big waves.
