On June 30th, Prof. Carl Mitcham gave a report, named Climate Change as Philosophical ProblemClimate Change as Philosophical Problem in 102A. The report was held by Wu Guolin
Abstract:
Begins with a non-scientist’s general summary of the scientific consensuson climate change and a review the engagement of public activistscientists concerning the proper societal response. The summary willbriefly reference some epistemological and ontological problemsassociated with climate change research. The last half, however, willemphasize ethical and political philosophical issues. The claim is that change presents an historically unprecedented challenge to us ashuman beings, one that we are not yet adequately addressing — and thatit is increasingly unlikely we will be able to forestall global scale humandisasters. The fundamental questions then become: What should wethink? What should we do?
