On June 30th, Prof. Carl Mitcham gave a report, named Engineering Ethics: What Ethics Has Done to Engineering and What Engineering Is Doing to Ethics in 201 Meeting Room. Vice president Wu Guolin held the meeting.
Abstract:
A talk in two parts. Part one will review the development of professionalengineering ethics, primarily in the United States, and how thisdevelopment has influenced engineering. Some modest reference will bemade to other countries, along with observations on the role of analyticphilosophy in engineering ethics. In complement, part two will consider aless common topic, some of the ways engineering has had and is having(or ought to have) an influence on ethics. The thesis is that ethics nowmust take account of living in an engineered world.
