On November 14th, in the morning, Social Work Research Centerheld a SocialWork Forum (the 4th lecture) inBuilding 5, 201 room.Professor Shi Bainian from ChineseYouth College was invited for an academic report entitled "Innovation of Social Manage and SocialDevelopment". This report was chaired by vice president, XieLixia, with secretary Sun Guozhong, president Liu Shexing, social work professional instructors and students attending the meeting.

A Report Made by Professor Shi Bainian

Professor Shi Bainian first defined the concept of social management from the aspects of Social control and social governance. Besides, he analyzed the features of social management from following changing factors: actor agents being multi-element, governors’ attention to guidance, power being multi-way, the relation being in cooperation, management arranged into long-term. Professor Shi believed that disintegration of the system unit, the globalization, the loosening household management, the running market economy, the infiltration of foreign hostile forces, the backward traditional social management was the background of innovation tasks. In face of new tasks, he thought, training social management and construction was urgently imperative. Finally, Professor Shi Bainian analyzed Chinese present situation of social work, the development path, and also visioned future of Chinese society from three aspects: professionalization, specialization and institutionalization.

After the lecture, to enhance department’s own ability, the students and co-workers communicated and discussed with Professor Shi Bainianon how to rationalize the relationship between social institutions and government departments.(Figure /Peng Text/Liu Sicong)

Attached Professor Shi Bainian’s profile:

Shi Bainian, graduated in 1982 from East China Normal University, majoring in Economics; in 2002, he graduated from Department of Applied Social Sciences of Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and gained Arts degree. He served as vice-chairman of Chinese social work education association,and director of the base of teenagers’ life education in Beijing, the ministry of expert committee for social work civil affairs. He was former director of SocialWork and Management Department, the chief of graduates’ department. His main research directions were social workand social security. He once had participated in the preparation of 18 textbooks, written professional papers over 40.
