Program Introduction

The Physics program, offered by the School of Physics and Optoelectronics at South China University of Technology, constitutes a primary discipline in Physics. It encompasses two specialized programs: Applied Physics and Opto-electronic Information Science and Engineering. The school currently hosts doctoral programs and postdoctoral research stations for the Physics primary discipline, doctoral programs and postdoctoral research stations for the Physical Electronics secondary discipline. The Physics discipline has maintained its position in the top 1% globally by ESI rankings since 2011 and was designated as a Guangzhou Key Discipline in 2018.

Program Cultivation Features

This program is anchored in the national strategic emerging industries and the major strategic demands of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It emphasizes mathematical and scientific foundations, consolidates applied fundamentals and optoelectronic theoretical knowledge; integrates science and engineering, and cultivates interdisciplinary professionals through applied physics; strengthens practical skills by leveraging hands-on teaching platforms and industrial resources in the Greater Bay Area; focuses on technological frontiers to nurture innovative, entrepreneurial, and creative professionals serving national strategic needs.
