From November 13th to 14th, the final of the 1st South China Undergraduates’ Physics Experiment Design Competition and the 22nd Guangdong Undergraduates’ Physics Experiment Design Competition was held in the building of School of Intelligent Engineering in Shaoguan University.

In the final, totally 63 teams from 19 universities respectively were promoted to the final appraisal. After heated competition, the team researching “magnetic field” led by Xiao Yusen from the 2019 “Yan Jici” Class of Applied Physics, won the provincial first prize. His classmate, Ma Zhenshen, leader of another team focusing on “measurement of viscous coefficient”, got the provincial second prize. South China University of Technology (SCUT) once again achieved prizes not lower than provincial second ones.

The School of Physics and Optoelectronics attached great importance to the competition, by caring about competitors’ preparation continuously, communicating with the team members and their advisers, and encouraging them to take the preparation seriously. With the guidance of the teachers Ye Xiaojing, Peng Jianxin and Liu Fuyonghong, the two SCUT teams entered the stage for presentation one after another. Clarifying the whole experiment process clearly and smoothly, showing various strengths of their experimenting skills, the team members successfully completed the competition. During the contest, the members not only presented solid theoretical and experimental proficiency, but also revealed confidence splendid control of the competition procedures. Finally, they received universal approval from the judges.

When autumn comes along with a bump harvest approaching naturally. With the careful support and guidance from the University and the School executives, the hard guidance of the advisers, and the top designs springing from the brilliance and effort of the team members, competitors from the School of Physics and Optoelectronics have shown the extraordinary demeanor of SCUT student by reaching brilliant achievements.

It is reported that the School of Physics and Optoelectronics thinks highly of the after-class scientific and technological innovation activities of the students, sparing no effort educating students to be talents of multiple creativity (being innovative, entrepreneurial, and creative). Ever since the development of the competition, the School has taken it seriously with all executives and teachers actively organizing and steadily boosting relevant work. The aim is to contribute to the education innovation for undergraduates of our School with the assistance of preparing for the contest. Under the guidance of the University, the School takes an active part in various national competitions such as the “Challenge Cup”, China Undergraduate Physics Tournament (CUPT), the College Students’ ‘Internet+’ Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition (“Internet+”), National University Students’ Opt-Sci-Tech Competition, etc., besides Guangdong Undergraduates’ Physics Experiment Design Competition.
