Yanming Zhao received his B.S. in Physics and M.S. in Theoretical Physics in 1984 and 1990 respectively. He went to Institute of Physics, Academy of Sciences and received a Ph.D. degree in Condensed Matter Physics in 1996. In 1998 he went to Prof. B. Raveaus research group in Laboratoire CRISMAT, CNRS, ISMRA et Universite de Caen, France as a Postdoctoral Research Associate to study giant magnetoresistance. Since 2003 he joined School of Physics, South China University of Technology, China as Professor of Physics. His recent work focuses on the synthesis and characterization of the novel materials for electrochemical energy storage applications, which include lithium or sodium ion batteries. A series of new materials with excellent electrochemical properties, such as Li9V3(P2O7)3(PO4)2, Na3Mn2(P2O7)(PO4), NaFe(PO3)3, NaxFe4(PO4)3, NaCo(PO3)3, Na2VFe2(PO4)3, Na2VMn2(PO4)3 and Na2Mn8(PO4)6, have been found, and its crystal structures and electrochemical properties were studied for the first time.
