Abstract:The biomedical industry is made up of four sectors: medical device industry, pharmaceutical industry, biotech and healthcare technology. The revenues of many companies have grown exponentially since 1950. The expenditures of the healthcare and biomedical industry are reaching the level of $3.65 trillion or 18.4% of American GDP. Such exponential growth is to be illustrated with the growth of the pacer maker company, Medtronic Inc. In the meantime, American companies are growing at a rate far more than the companies in Western Europe. How these factors, laws, FDA, NIH, business environment, and entrepreneurship, make the American biomedical industry into a powerhouse of the world is to be examined. However, there are signs to indicate that the American pharmaceutical industry is decaying. The talk will be concluded with a discussion on the growth of Chinese biomedical industry to a powerhouse.
Currently China is being called to grow Chinese biomedical industry into a powerhouse. How to succeed in biomedical entrepreneurship is the central theme of this talk.
