On May 26, 2021, a series of lectures on laboratory safety knowledge of the School of Medicine were held in room B2-501. Instructor He of Guangdong Suian Fire Rescue Technology Center, trainer Huang of Guangzhou Kaisheng Safety Equipment Company and other training experts were invited to the lecture. Jiang Kaiqiu, executive vice president of School of Medicine, and more than 70 teachers and students with relevant safety responsibilities in various laboratories attended the meeting.

In the lecture, Jiang Kaiqiu emphasized that laboratory safety is an effective guarantee and support for school teaching and scientific researches. In daily study, in addition to strictly ensuring laboratory safety, we should also jointly maintain fire safety, traffic safety, property safety and ideological safety, prevent fraud and prohibit electric vehicle from charging in the building. Therefore, safety awareness and security management must be put in the first place at all times.

In the first lecture, instructor He introduced fire safety knowledge to teachers and students in humorous language and vivid short video, personally demonstrated the usages of gas mask and safety belt, and conducted practical training on the use of fire extinguishers.

By analyzing the classification, function and structural particularity of hazardous material cabinets, Mr. Huang, the safety equipment trainer, introduced the precautions for the use of hazardous material cabinets, and carefully trained the usage of emergency devices, including eye washer and sprinkler. He explained the use and maintenance of the eye washer to the teachers and students in combination with the real devices on site, and stressed that the eye washer and flushing equipment should be started at least once a week, otherwise impurities are easy to be generated in the pipe, which will aggravate the eye damage after flushing. During the lecture, Mr. Huang also shared the key points of personal protection and emergency treatment related knowledge of laboratory operation.

Huang, who participated in the safety training, said that the lecture not only improved their safety awareness, but also enabled them to preliminarily master some contingency measures in dealing with emergencies.
