From October 12th to 15th, the seventh China International College Students Internet+ Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition final was held in Nanchang University in Jiangxi province. After the heated competition, the project “Tan Zhen Technology--- A pioneer in the accurate detection system for cancer cell-specific proteins under atomic force surgery” (director: Professor Xin Xuegang) responsible by our doctoral student Huang Yihong of 2019 class stood out from 1085 competitors and gained the second prize. This is the first time that the School of Medicine gained the second prize in the national “Internet plus” final competition.

This project developed the life science instrument used for Study on interaction between single-cell and biological macromolecule--- Atomic force microscopy system and transformed it into clinic application for Intraoperative real-time differentiation of benign and malignant tumor tissues, which is representative of “combination of medicine and engineering” of the School of Medicine.

The director professor Xin Xuegang expressed his appreciation for the university’s support to the team and the members’ efforts and insistence. The team insisted on the characteristics of “combination of medicine and engineering” of the South China University of Technology, tightly centered on the main scientific path “tumor” and innovated in the aspects of hardware, sensor and measurement software algorithm, which formed Atomic force microscopy system for measuring biological macromolecules and single-cell biophysical parameters with independent intellectual property and was transformed into clinic application, equipped with great research value and potential.
It is reported that the “Internet +” College Students Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition is currently the competition with the highest level, the most extensive coverage, the largest number of participants. With the theme of The future has come, the future is ours, more than 2.28 million projects and 9.56 million people from 4,347 institutions from 121 countries and regions applied for the competition. This time, there were 9 projects in the South China University of Technology, and they won 3 gold medals and 6 silver medals.
The School of Medicine has set the educational goal since the establishment: cultivating the talents who know about medicine, who are skilled at designing, and who are good at producing. And the School of Medicine has always emphasized scientific exploration and innovation transformation with the characteristic of “combination of medicine and engineering” in the aspect of cultivating students. The atomic force microscopy system developed this time is the result of the competitors’ efforts, also the achievements of the transformation from scientific research to clinical application. It is the scientific innovation, also the good news for patients. The development road is still rough and lengthy with no end for the progress. Wish us excellent achievements in the future again!
