On July 12, 2016, the opening ceremony of the regenerative medicine research center co-founded by the South China University of Technology (SCUT) and the University of Western Australia (UWA), and the appointment ceremony for guest Professor Zheng Minghao were held by the School of medicine of South China University of Technology on the university city campus. Prof. Iain Watt, the vice-chancellor of the UWA, Prof. Zheng Minghao, the deputy dean of the school of medicine and the director of orthopaedic engineering laboratory of UWA, Prof. Zhu Ming, the vice-chancellor of the SCUT, Prof. Wu Shulin, the standing committee of the communist party of the Guangdong General Hospital were presenting the ceremony. The ceremony were also attended by Prof. Shu Kanghua, the president of the Australia China International Cultural Exchange Society, Mr. Wang Qingnian, the director of the International Exchange and Cooperation Department of the SCUT and the deputy director Mr. Yao min, Ms. He Dongqing, the secretary of party general branch of the school of medicine of SCUT and the deputy secretary Mr. Cao Jiafu, Prof. Liu jia, the deputy dean of the school of medicine of SCUT, Mr. Jiang Kaiqiu, the administrative deputy dean of the school of medicine of SCUT and the office director and Prof. Zheng Qiujian, the director of the Guangdong General Hospital et al.

The meeting between Prof. Zhu, the vice-chancellor of the SCUT, and Prof. Watt was held in Building No.2 to discuss joint training program for undergraduate students, global education and other matter. they reached a preliminary collaborative agreement to launch the “1+2+2” joint training program for students who major in Medical Imaging and the short-term programs for graduates students in the future. Through gradually promoting these programs and expanding the exchanges and collaboration of two medical schools, it will lead to the launch of the international education project when the opportunities arise. During the meeting, Prof. Zhu were looking forward to finalizing to collaboration agreement in the near future, Meanwhile, Prof. Watt have sincere invited Prof. Zhu to visit the UWA. The meeting was concluded with both parties exchanging tokens of appreciation.

During the ceremony, Prof. Zhu pointed out that the establishment of the joint research center for regenerative medicine is of great significance. The collaboration with the UWA could be further strengthened to allow both schools to benefit from this synergistic relationship, mainly on innovations,and aslo to promote the development and breakthrough in the field of medicine. Prof. Watt, through his speech, have kindly provided a general introduction of UWA, and he congratulated the establishment of the joint research center for regenerative medicine and Prof. Zheng’s appointment as the guest professor in the school of medicine. He also agreed to further strengthen the collaboration with the SCUT. Prof. Zheng said that the joint research center for regenerative medicine has integrated the biomedical expertise of the UWA, the engineering expertise of the SCUT and the clinical resources from the Guangdong General Hospital. The combination of high-quality resources obtained locally and internationally will rapidly translate the result from the laboratory research to clinical application, leading to potential breakthrough in the field of regenerative medicine in the future.
