On November 29, 2023, the award ceremony for the 2023 Zhu Liangyi Analytical Instrumentation Innovation Award was held by the Analytical Instrumentation Branch of the China Instrument Society. Prof. Xiangjun Gong from the School of Materials Science and Engineering, South China University of Technology, won the 2023 Zhu Liangyi Analytical Instrumentation Youth Innovation Award for his invention of holography-based non-marking 3D dynamic optical microscope.

Prof. Gong received her undergraduate degree in Physics from the University of Science and Technology of China, and her PhD degree in Physics from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and has been working in the School of Materials Science and Engineering of South China University of Technology since 2014. She has long been working in the field of creation, research and development and application of materials analysis and characterization instruments, and has developed holography-based non-labeled 3D dynamic optical microscope, synchronous fluorescence detector, total internal reflection-based single-particle microrheometer, differential refractive index detector, and probe-modulated atomic force microscope and other analytical instruments.
Prof. Gong is the first one in the world who successfully developed the holography-based non-labeled 3D dynamic optical microscope (DHM), which can continuously characterize the non-labeled 3D dynamic behaviors of particles, micro- and nano-bubbles, microorganisms, and cells in the size range of 50 nm to 500 μm, and has the characteristics of non-destructive, three-dimensional, high-precision, large depth of field, and dynamic observation of the test objects, which has been widely used in the evaluation of the effectiveness of marine antifouling, the evaluation of the effectiveness of marine antifouling, and the evaluation of the effectiveness of marine antifouling, and the evaluation of the effectiveness of marine pollution. The technology has been widely used in the fields of marine antifouling effect evaluation, three-dimensional tracking and interaction of immune cells in biomedicine, ophthalmic material design and evaluation, and can also be applied to assisted reproduction, organoid and drug research and development, and semiconductor surface and thin-film material characterization. In particular, for different application scenarios, she has developed several DHM models such as commercial microscope compatible, off-axis transmission, off-axis reflection, and portable. With the continuous deepening of research, DHM will be more widely used in scientific research, production and teaching.

Since 2017, China Instrument Society (CIS) has set up the Zhu Liangyi Analytical Instrument Innovation Award to stimulate enterprises and scientists to actively participate in the innovation of analytical instrumentation. In 2023, there will be three sub-awards, including Innovation Achievement Award, Youth Innovation Award and Application Innovation Award. And the Youth Innovation Award is mainly awarded to young scientific and technological workers under 40 years old,who have made important innovation achievements in the research and development of analytical instruments or related key components.
