On November 18, 2021, the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) announced the list of 84 newly elected Chinese academicians and 20 foreigner academicians. Professor Zhengyi Fu, an alumnus of School of Materials Science and Engineering, South China University of Technology was listed among them.

Zhengyi Fu got his bachelor and master’s degree from SMSE, SCUT in 1984 and 1987 respectively. He is currently the Chair Professor of School of Materials Science and Engineering, Wuhan University of Technology.

Professor Fu is one of the early pioneers of combustion synthesis research in China. He has made outstanding contributions and achieved great results in key fields such as ceramics and composite materials, laminated and structural-functional integrative materials, and new materials preparation technology.

Over the years, with innovative and unceasing spirit, the research team led by Professor Fu has successfully developed a number of internationally advanced materials synthesis and preparation systems, and carried out pilot tests and industrialization of high-performance new materials.

Professor Fu has won the National Prize for Progress in Science and Technology (Third Prize), the Ministerial Prize for Progress in Science and Technology (First Prize), and obtained 1 National Invention Patent, all as the first author. He is also the winner of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and the Trans-Century Program Foundation for Talents from the Ministry of Education.
