On 25 November, 2021, the “light of science” symposium hosted by School of Materials Science and Engineering (SMSE) was successfully held at the State Key Laboratory of Luminescent Materials and Devices (SKLLMD), South China University of Technology. Professor Yuguang Ma, the newly elected Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences was invited as a keynote speaker to share his research experience and expertise on organic light emitting materials. This meeting adopted a hybrid online-offline model, with a wide audience of more than 3300 students and teachers. 

The symposium centered around on Professor Ma’s research journey, starting from his student experience to his later scientific practices. Later, he gave a wonderful talk on the frontiers of his research. During the symposium, students and teachers also had a heated discussion with Professor Ma about his research and life experience.

After the symposium, students were guided to a lab tour in SKLLMD. They were introduced the main research directions, lab facilities, instrument and equipment of the State Key Lab, gaining a further understanding of optoelectronic materials and devices.

Overall, the symposium provided a platform for the collision of academic ideas, and inspired research enthusiasm among students and faculty members. Although the meeting was over after this fruitful afternoon, the road of scientific research is extended, and we believe that more scientific  results will be achieved here in the future.
