On September 18 to 20, 2020, the 2020 China Display Academic Conference was held in Phoenix City Hotel in Guangzhou. This conference was jointly hosted by China Optics and Optoelectronics Manufactures Association Liquid Crystal Branch (CODA) and Liquid Crystal Branch of Chinese Physical Society, and organized by School of Materials Science and Engineering (SMSE) and the State Key Laboratory of Luminescent Materials and Devices (SKLLMD) of South China University of Technology. The main objective of this conference is to exchange ideas on new display technologies and future trends, and discuss on the healthy development of China's new display technology.
The conference drew more than 450 attendees, including experts, scholars and young talents in the field of display technology home and abroad. Xiaoping Dong, Deputy Director of Electronic Information Department of Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Professor Min Zhu, Vice President of South China University of Technology (SCUT), Yong Cao, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Zhongcan Ouyang, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Yunqi Liu, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences from Institute of Chemistry, Lijun Wang, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Lin Wang, Secretary General of China Optics and Optoelectronics Manufactures Association (COEMA), Xinqing Liang, Executive Vice President of CODA, Zhengmin Sun, Chief Advisor of Shenzhen Flat Panel Display Industry Association, Wenjin Xue, Vice Chairman of Nanjing Flat Panel Display Industry Association and other enterprise representatives attended the opening ceremony of the Conference.
The conference was divided into two days, covering 10 keynote speeches, 28 invited talks and 31 oral reports. Over 400 attendees from government, associations, industries, universities and media gathered together. The discussions fell into trending topics of AMOLED, VR HD display technology, quantum dot technology, touch screen technology, 3D display technology, new display materials, and others in the display industry.
2020 China Display Academic Conference Held in Guangzhou
On the morning of September 19th, the opening ceremony of the Conference was hosted by Professor Junbiao Peng, Dean of SMSE, SCUT. Min Zhu, Vice President of SCUT gave a welcome speech, introducing the history, discipline construction, and talent training of SCUT to the attendees. He expected that this Conference could serve as a communication platform for mutual learning and progress, through which the innovative development of China's display industry could be promoted.
Xinqing Liang, Executive Vice President of CODA gave an overview of the present situation and development of China’s display industry. He emphasized that China’s display industry was still facing problems in lacking original technology and technological innovation, though it had been thriving in recent years. The future development of the display industry can only be realized with the support from the government, enterprises, universities and other institutions. Only through joint efforts of all parties, can we break through technological bottlenecks, enhance capability of talents, and become a country with powerful display industry.
Xiaoping Dong, Deputy Director of Electronic Information Department of Ministry of Industry and Information Technology gave an overall introduction of the development achievements and vision of the national display industry. For the past few years, China's display industry has made a giant leap forward with constantly expanding industry scale and accelerated research and industrialization. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will continue to provide policy guide and support, adhering to industrial coordination and cooperation. He also pointed out that, universities, research institutes and enterprises should continue to forge ahead in technology research and industrial cooperation with an innovative and enterprising spirit, so as to create a brighter future for the development of the display industry.

On the morning of September 19th, Zhongcan Ouyang, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Xiaogang Peng from Zhejiang University, Professor Baoping Wang, Standing Vice President of Southeast University, and Xue Dong, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of BOE Technology Group gave keynote speeches on the current situation, highlights and development bottlenecks of national display industry, including display technology, quantum dot display and eye-safe display.
On the afternoon of September 19th and the morning of 20th, Bin Zhao, Research & Development Director of TCL China Star Optoelectronics Technology, Lijun Wang, Academician from Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics, Guanzhen Peng, Chief Technology Officer ofTianma Microelectronics Company, and Yunqi Liu, Academician from Institute of Chemistry, gave keynote speeches on MLED backlight 8K technology of TCL, laser display and semiconductor micro-display, changes and challenges of small and middle size OLED, and intrinsically flexible display materials and devices. Meanwhile, Haozhong Guo, distinguished professor of Taiwan Chiao Tung University, and Professor Byoungho Lee from Seoul National University gave online speeches on Micro-LED display and light field display.

On 20th of September, representatives from South China University of Technology, Peking University, Fudan University, Sun Yet-Sen University, Guangdong Academy of Sciences and other universities and research institutes, and representatives from BOE Technology Group, TCL Industrial Technology Research Institute , Visionox, Merck and other companies, gave reports on five topics of printed OLED display, LCD, flexible quantum dot display, Micro-LED, and AMD.

3. 2020 China Display Academic Conference Roundtable Discussion
One of the most wonderful parts of the Conference was the roundtable discussion led by Professor Junbiao Peng. Professor Peng first proposed questions that are widely concerned by the display industry, like “What are the outstanding advantages of OLED over LCD display so far? Will these advantages ensure that OLED will win out in the future?”, and some others. At the same time, other delegates proposed questions as well, like “What do you think of the development prospect and industry potential of 3D display”, “What do you think of the development of Micro-OLED?”, “How can we solve the problem that China’s manufacturing equipment has long relied on foreign countries?”... The invited guests, Xibin Shao, Vice President of BOE Technology Group, Shujuan Yang, General Manager of Brand Office of Visionox, Professor Qionghua Wang from Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Jianpu Wang from Nanjing Tech University, Professor Tailiang Guo from Fuzhou University and Professor Zhaojun Liu from Southern University of Science and Technology answered the questions and gave comments on these issues, bringing inspiration to the attendees.

4. 2020 China Display Academic Conference Job Fair in Display Industry
Aiming to realize effective connection between institutions and enterprises, an offline job fair activity was added to the conference on September 19th. The employers included BOE Technology Group, TCL China Star Optoelectronics Technology, Visionox, Dongguan Chengxiong Laser Equipment Company and other leading enterprises. Eight excellent graduates from South China University of Technology, South China Normal University and other institutions gave presentations on the job fair, showing their solid professional knowledge background and other comprehensive qualities. In the end, these eight candidates have all signed contracts with the companies, with four recruited by TCL China Star Optoelectronics Technology.
Apart from this job fair, another job fair was held on September 20th, receiving around 300 resumes. This helped build a communication platform between job seekers and companies, and boost job opportunities in the pandemic season.
