About SMSE
The School of Materials Science and Engineering (SMSE) of South China University of Technology was developed on the basis of the traditional advantage major of the former South China Institute of Technology. The School is now consisting of five departments, which are Department of Polymer Materials Science and Engineering, Department of Inorganic Materials Science and Engineering, Department of Metal Materials Science and Engineering, Department of Electronic Materials Science and Engineering, and Department of Biomedical Engineering. The School has two doctoral programs of first-level disciplines: Materials Science and Engineering and Biomedical Engineering. Materials science and engineering is the first-level national key discipline and its ESI global ranking enters the top one-thousandth (0.52 ‰ in September 2019). In 2017, Materials Science and Engineering was selected in the list of first-class disciplines in China’s “Double First-Class” university project.
