On January 27, the Scientific Grand Ceremony - 2018 Science and Technology Innovators Award was held in CCTV. A total of 10 scientific innovators and 3 scientific innovation teams were selected. Tang Ben Zhong, the initiator of AIE concept, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Professor of SMSE, South China University of Technology, was selected as the year's scientific and technological innovator and received an award.

At the award ceremony, Academician Tang Ben Zhong introduced his discovery of this new concept: It all began with an accidental finding during the research, and they seized the opportunity to put forward the new scientific concept of AIE. At the same time, through in-depth and systematic research, the working mechanism of AIE was clarified and a series of AIE-based advanced functional materials were developed. Through this way, they developed AIE into a new field pioneered and led by China. In January 2018, Tang Ben Zhong's team won the first prize of the 2017 National Natural Science Award. At present, more than 4500 research institutes in more than 80 countries and regions have joined AIE research field.
