On May 31, Professor JunBiao Peng, Dean of SMSE, and MiaoXian Wu, Secretary of the CPC of SMSE, paid a visit to Guangdong Technion-Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT) with other staff members. Professor Moshe Eizenberg, Dean of GTIIT’s Graduate School and Head of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Professor Ory Lahav, Head of the Department of Undergraduate Education and the Department of Environmental Engineering, Professor HaiYun Xu, Assistant to the President and Head of the Department of Scientific Research, HongQing Yang, Head of the Department of Student Affairs and several professors of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering from GTIIT’s side joined the meeting.
GTIIT is the first Sino-foreign jointly established university with independent legal personality, aiming to introduce high-quality higher education resources from Israel. Questions were raised in the meeting like: how does GTIIT train undergraduate students and what is the curriculum design for Materials Science and Engineering discipline? How to effectively monitor the quality of undergraduate teaching? What is GTIIT’s plan for the internationalization of student training? How to give full play to the experience of Israel in cultivating the entrepreneurship of students with Chinese education background? In view of the different industry environment in China, what kind of industry-university-research collaboration mode is going to be adopted by GTIIT with local companies?
People from both sides had a heated discussion on these questions.
Professor JunBiao Peng briefly introduced the School of Materials Science and Engineering of South China University of Technology. He mentioned that, as an example of Sino-foreign jointly established university, GTIIT had advanced rapidly in every aspect. GTIIT’s school running experience is instructive for the undergraduate education of our School, especially in the internationalization of student training. He hoped that both sides would maintain close ties and lay a good foundation for closer collaboration between the two universities in the future.
