On April 6th – 9th, the International Conference on Organic and Polymer Synthesis (ICOPS 2018), hosted by the State Key Laboratory of Luminescent Materials and Devices, was held successfully in Guangzhou.

ICOPS2018 is approved by the Ministry of Education and supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. It’s co-hosted by the State Key Laboratory of Luminescent Materials and Devices of SCUT and the State Key Laboratory of Metallic Organic Chemistry, Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and jointly organized by the Aggregation Induced Emission Research Center of SCUT, SCUT-HKUST Joint Institute, and the National Engineering Research Center for Human Tissue Function Reconstruction (HK sub-center). The ICOPS2018 conference focused on the development of organic and polymer synthesis methodology and its application in constructing new functional materials, aiming at further promoting the integration of cross-curricular interests of organic synthetic chemistry and polymer synthesis chemistry, and providing a platform for in-depth communication and collaboration between researchers home and abroad.
The conference was co-chaired by Professor Benzhong Tang, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, South China University of Technology, and Yong Tang, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry of CAS. 253 researchers from more than 10 countries and regions like China, Hong Kong, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Singapore, Japan, South Korea and Switzerland had gathered together to promote exchanges and collaborations between domestic and foreign counterparts in the form of conference reports, invitation reports and posters. In addition, invited by the committee of the Conference, Shengming Ma from the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry and Fudan University also attended the meeting.
At the opening ceremony, Benzhong Tang and Junbiao Peng (Dean of School of Materials Science and Engineering, SCUT) delivered welcome speeches, which opened the curtain of ICOPS 2018.
The meeting consists of six conference reports and 53 invitation reports. Scholars from home and abroad gave brilliant speeches to everyone.

A total of 84 posters were accepted, among which 14 were voted as the best posters sponsored by the Chinese Journal of POLYMER SCIENCE, Acta Polymerica Sinica and SCIENCE CHINA chemistry.

The successful convening of this Conference provided a great platform for the exchange of organic synthetic chemistry and polymer synthetic chemistry, and new opportunities for the development and innovation of organic chemistry, polymer chemistry and other interdisciplinary researches. At the same time, it further expanded the international influence and popularity of SMSE in the field of materials science.
