From 17th to 21st November, the 2nd International Workshop on Persistent and Photostimulable Phosphors was held at Shaw Building of Science, South China University of Technology (SCUT). 208 representatives from 14 countries and regions like China, the US, the UK, France, the Netherlands, and Japan have attended the Workshop. Prominent experts home and abroad gave 56 reports, including Prof. Qiang Su, academicianofChineseAcademyofSciences, Prof. Jacques Lucas, academicianofFrenchAcademyofSciences, Editor-in-chief of Optical Materials, Elsevier, and Prof. Georges Boulon. The Opening Ceremony was held by the Conference Chair, Prof. Jianrong Qiu.
Various aspects of persistent and photostimulable luminescence have been covered in this workshop, including synthesis and development for phosphors in new spectral ranges, spectroscopic characterization including luminescence and thermoluminescence, structural and defect characterization, dynamic energy transfer processes, simulation and models for the processes such as charging and trapping, energy storage, luminescentnanomaterials, etc. The talks fully displayed the latest research frontiers on persistent and photostimulable luminescent materials, and indicated future research directions.
Compared with the 1st International Workshop on Persistent and Photostimulable Phosphors, the 2nd Workshop had 78 oral presentations, 34 of which were from foreign speakers, and 44 of which were from domestic speakers. There were also 46 poster presentations. One professor from SCUT gave the Invited Talk, and 26 of our students gave oral and poster presentations, 6 of which were awarded the “Excellent Report Award”.
It was reported that the 1st International Workshop on Persistent and Photostimulable Phosphors had been held in Ghent University, Belgium, between 19th and 20th September, 2011. This time, the Workshop was sponsored by SCUT, and co-organized by Sun Yat-sen University, Guangdong University of Technology and South China Agricultural University, with Prof. Jianrong Qiu as the Chair of the Workshop, Prof. Qinyuan Zhang the Co-chair, and Prof. Mingying Peng the Co-chair and Secretaire. The Workshop had also got sponsorships from State Key Laboratory of Luminescent Materials and Devices, School of Materials and Engineering, and International Office of SCUT.
