On April 21, delegates led by Sir Richard Henry Friend from the Cavendish Laboratory at the University of Cambridge visit SCUT at the invitation of the State Key Laboratory of Luminescent Materials and Devices. The “2013 SCUT-CAM Joint Workshop on Polymer/Organic Optoelectronic Materials and Devices” was held on April 22-23 in SCUT.
Sir Friend is the inventor of PLED, one of the international pioneers in the field of organic electronics, academician of The Royal Society and Royal Academy of Engineering, and former director of the Cavendish Laboratory. He was conferred knighthood by The Queen in 2003 for his significant contribution in physics, and was awarded Millennium Technology Prize in 2010. The other four delegate members are: Professor Neil Greenham, a famous scholar in the field of Organic Solid State Physics, and three research assistants from the Cavendish Laboratory.
A total of 16 academic reports were made by both parties in the joint workshop. A thorough and deep understanding of each other’s newest research accomplishments was achieved through speeches on current topics like polymer optoelectronic materials and devices. Both parties expressed the hope to strengthen mutual cooperation in joint projects on organic/polymer optoelectronic materials and devices, and to build solid relationship in the long run.
Vice-president ZHU Min met the representatives, and exchanged ideas during the meeting.
