In the morning of Nov. 10 2010, the ceremony of appointing Dr. Zhihong Nie of the University of Maryland US was held in the
School of Materials Science and Engineering. Prof. Jianrong Qiu presided in the name of the School Administration over the ceremony and awarded the certificate of appointment to Dr. Zhihong Nie. After the brief ceremony Dr. Nie gave a wonderful lecture entitled by Lessons from Polymers: Controlled Self-assembly of Inorganic Nanoparticles. The talk showed how he got inspiration from block copolymers and how he modified the surface and two ends of inorganic nanoparticles and how to in a controlled way assemble the desirable morphology, and finally how he developed new self assembly theory of nano inorganic
particles. The talk was full of idea and caught all the attentions of students, and young scientists etc. Dr.Nie,afterwards, visited the Institute of Optical Communication Materials and discussed with the Institute on all the possible ways to strengthen the communication and cooperation between both sides, and reached win-win at the end.
 

P.S. Short CV of Dr. Zhihong Nie:
Zhihong Nie born in December 1979 graduated from Jilin University in 2000 with bachelor degree, got his master degree in Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2003, achieved his Ph. D from University of Toronto in 2008, where his supervisor was Academician of the Royal Canadian Academy of Sciences Prof. Eugenia Kumacheva. Afterwards, he joined the group of Prof. George Whitesides as postdoctor in Harvard University. Since 2011 he has been appointed as Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, University of Maryland, College Park. He has won MSED/LANXESS, CAGS/UMI distinguished dissertation awards etc. To now, he has given 14 invited talks in APS conferences, Caltech etc, and authored 30 papers which have been cited more than 1100 times. His results were published in famous international journals like Science, Nature Materials, Nature Nanotechnology, JACS etc. His works have been high lightened in Nature, Science etc.
