From June 1 to 2, the Sino-Australia workshop, hosted by SCUT and the University of Newcastle (UoN), was held at the University Town International Hotel. Vice-president ZHU Min attended the workshop and signed an agreement on behalf of SCUT with UoN on 2+2 joint undergraduate cultivation.

The workshop was the first event of Sino-Australia Research Center since its establishment, on which dozens of professors, both at home and abroad, had in-depth communication and discussion focusing on the theme of "New Frontiers in Business". The Research Center was co-established in 2010 by SCUT and UoN, with aims at joint doctoral cultivation, cooperation in teaching and scientific research, and training programs for governments and enterprises.

Growing out of the former Newcastle College of the University of New South Wales, UoN got established as a public university since 1965. At present, UoN ranks 9th in Australia and has strong capacities in such disciplines as economics, law, medicine and architecture etc.
