South China University of Technology Team Won the Best Paper Award and the Second Prize of the 21st Moot Competition

On December 8, 2023, the 21st TDC Cup International Commercial Arbitration Moot was successfully concluded in Beijing. The team of South China University of Technology (SCUT) performed well and won the Best Paper Award and the National Second Prize.

The SCUT team was coached by Prof. Xu Shu, who is the Associate Dean of the School of Law, led by undergraduate student Cai Wanting from the class of 2021 batch. The team is made up of 8 undergraduate students, including: Cai Wanting (court defender, 2021 batch), Mo Xiaoxi (court defender, 2021 batch), Fu Nanxiang (court defender, 2021 batch), Ruan Yiqi (court defender, 2022 batch), Zhuang Xin (researcher, 2021 batch), Sun Jinya (researcher, 2021 batch), Zhong Yuanci (researcher, 2021 batch), and Zeng Yahui (researcher, 2022 batch) . With solid professionalism and excellent teamwork, the SCUT team  stood out from 97 teams and won the National Second Prize by winning all four round robin matches. In addition, after a fierce competition, the SCUT team also won the Best Written Memorandum, which has only 3 places in the country. Team member Zhuang Xin was awarded the Team Outstanding Contribution Award.

As one of the largest English moot court competitions in China with the longest history, the largest number of participating schools and the widest influence, TDC Cup is a legal competition based on the questions and rules of the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Debate Competition, one of the world's most famous legal competitions, This event aims to enhance the international legal literacy and practical ability of young students in China. This year's competition attracted 97 colleges and universities from China (including mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao), the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and other countries and regions, with a total of more than 1,000 young scholars participating. Over 350 arbitration experts from 28 countries and regions around the world were invited to judge the competitions.
