Recently, the 18th South China University of Technology Model United Nations Conference and International Organizations Youth Forum was held at the Guangzhou International Campus of South China University of Technology. Faculty advisors, delegates, and observers from more than 30 schools, including South China University of Technology, Sun Yat-sen University, and Nanjing University, gathered together to engage in in-depth exchanges on topics such as global governance and the development of international organizations. At the opening ceremony, Wu Wangjiao, Director of the Department of International Organizations at the School of Foreign Languages of South China University of Technology, reviewed the positive results the university has achieved in recent years in cultivating talents for international organizations, and emphasized that young students should continuously enhance their international vision and global governance capabilities, actively participate in international affairs, and contribute youthful strength to building a community with a shared future for mankind. Subsequently, Zhao Tianxing, Secretary-General of the South China University of Technology Model United Nations Association, delivered a speech, introducing the preparations for this year's conference and expressing expectations for in-depth exchanges and mutual growth among the delegates.

This year's conference set up committees including the World Trade Organization, the International Atomic Energy Agency, a Historical Special Committee, and the Main Press Center, and adopted the rules of procedure of the China National Model United Nations Conference. Delegates in each committee conducted consultations and discussions on global governance topics such as international trade governance and nuclear security cooperation. Through segments including position statements, unmoderated caucuses, and document drafting, they gained an in-depth experience of multilateral diplomacy and the operating mechanisms of international organizations, continuously enhancing their global governance literacy and cross-cultural communication skills.

The conference specially invited Zhang Yue, Ambassador of the Department of International Organizations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, former Counsellor of the Permanent Mission to the World Trade Organization, and former Representative to the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, as the keynote speaker for the Ambassador Lecture. The lecture was moderated by Professor Zhu Xianlong, Dean of the School of Foreign Languages. Professor Zhu Xianlong extended a warm welcome to Ambassador Zhang Yue and, in conjunction with the school's work in cultivating talents for international organizations, introduced the university's achievements in recent years in building a system for cultivating talents for international organizations and global governance, establishing practical platforms, and developing students' international competence. He expressed the hope that students would cherish the opportunity to engage face-to-face with a senior diplomat, deepen their understanding of the global governance system through the development and practice of international organizations, further broaden their international vision, strengthen their sense of mission and responsibility, and prepare for future participation in international affairs and service to the nation's development strategy.

This event was hosted by South China University of Technology, organized by the School of Foreign Languages and the Model United Nations Association, supported by the Undergraduate School, and co-organized by the Center for Area Studies of South China University of Technology, the Indian Ocean Island Countries Research Center of South China University of Technology, and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Center for Global Governance and International Organizations Research. The event built a platform for exchange for experience sharing and intellectual collision, effectively helping students broaden their international vision, gain an in-depth understanding of the operating models of international organizations, clearly plan internship paths and career development directions, and contribute Chinese wisdom, provide Chinese solutions, and demonstrate SCUT's strength for global governance.
