I. Introduction to the Institutions
Established in 2002, the School of Foreign Languages at South China University of Technology (SCUT) originated from the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Office founded in 1952. The school comprises teaching departments including the Department of English, Department of Japanese, Department of International Organizations, Academic Graduate Division, Professional Graduate Division, College English Teaching Department, and Public English Teaching Department for Graduate Students. The school began enrolling undergraduate students in 1988, obtained authorization for a master's program in 1991, established a first-tier discipline master's program in foreign languages and literature in 2006, added a master's program in translation in 2010, obtained authorization for a first-tier discipline doctoral program in foreign languages and literature in 2021, and established a postdoctoral research program in foreign languages and literature in 2023, forming a comprehensive talent cultivation system from bachelor's to doctoral levels. In the Best Chinese Disciplines Rankings by ShanghaiRanking from 2020 to 2023, the first-tier discipline of Foreign Languages and Literature consistently ranked among the top in the country. In the Best Chinese Majors Rankings by Shanghai Ranking in 2023 and 2024, the Business English undergraduate program was rated A+ and ranked first in the country for two consecutive years.
In recent years, the school has continuously promoted the connotative development of its disciplines. It now hosts multiple research bases, including the Ministry of Education’s Research Center for Country and Area Studies, the Greater Bay Area (GBA) Center for Global Governance and International Organizations, and the GBA Center for Language Governance and Language Resources. The school also operates three academic journals: Island Studies Journal (an SSCI journal), Folk, Knowledge, Place, and the Indian Ocean Studies Journal. The academic team has undertaken more than 40 major projects under the National Social Science Fund, major research projects under the Ministry of Education's Philosophy and Social Sciences, and annual projects under the National Social Science Fund. The school has received nearly 20 awards, including the Outstanding Achievement Award in Humanities and Social Sciences from the Ministry of Education and the Outstanding Achievement Award in Philosophy and Social Sciences from Guangdong Province, and has obtained over 200 provincial and ministerial-level research projects. Adhering to the concept of interdisciplinary integration, the school has achieved significant results in think tank construction. The Indian Ocean Island Countries Research Center has been recognized as a high-level construction unit for country and area studies under the Ministry of Education and as a source think tank in the China Think Tank Index (CTTI).
The school’s teaching team has won three Second Prizes for National Teaching Achievements, two National Curriculum Ideology and Politics Demonstration Courses, five National First-Class Undergraduate Courses, 13 First-Class Courses in Guangdong Province, and four Special, First, and Second Prizes for Higher Education Teaching Achievements in Guangdong Province, laying a solid foundation for talent cultivation. The school actively promotes the cultivation of talents for international organizations, with many students undertaking internships at organizations such as the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), contributing SCUT wisdom to cultivating international organization talents with global governance capabilities.

The University of Hawaii at Mānoa (UHM), founded in 1907, is the largest and oldest campus in the University of Hawaii system. II. Program Overview
1.Program Description
3+2 Program
Undergraduate students study foundational professional courses at the School of Foreign Studies, SCUT, during their first to third years. Upon meeting the admission requirements, they proceed to study for a master's degree at the University of Hawaii at Mānoa for the subsequent two years. The first cohort of 3+2 students will be selected from SCUT undergraduate students between 2021 and 2022, commencing their master's studies under the 3+2 program at UHM in the fall semester of 2024.

5.Application Requirements
a) GPA
A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above (or equivalent percentage grade) during the first three years of study at SCUT.
b) TOEFL/IELTS
A minimum TOEFL (iBT) score of 100 or an academic IELTS score of 7.0.
(Note: Students applying for Asian Studies must meet the minimum language requirement of TOEFL 100 or academic IELTS 7.0. Students applying for education-related majors who achieve a TOEFL score of 80 or an academic IELTS score of 6.5 may be conditionally admitted to the UHM 3+2 master's program but will be required to take an academic English proficiency test at the UHM English Language Institute upon enrollment.)
