Notice on Hosting the Campus Selection for the 12th Guangdong Province "Alliance Cup" Undergraduate English Writing Competition

In order to further deepen the reform of English teaching in undergraduate institutions across Guangdong Province, enhance the English application skills of university students, and cultivate and identify outstanding English writing talents, the English Sub-Committee of the Guangdong Province Undergraduate Foreign Language Teaching Guidance Committee and the Guangdong Province College English Curriculum Teaching Guidance Committee, in collaboration with the China College English Writing Teaching Alliance, will jointly host the 12th Guangdong Province Alliance Cup Undergraduate English Writing Competition. This competition will invite authoritative experts in the field of foreign language writing teaching and assessment to set the topics and evaluate submissions, ensuring professionalism, standardization, and leadership.

The campus selection for the 12th Guangdong Province Alliance Cup Undergraduate English Writing Competition will be held from now until 24:00 on May 7, 2025. The provincial final is tentatively scheduled for May 24, 2025, at Guangzhou College of Technology and Business. The details of the campus selection are as follows:

I. Participants

All undergraduate students currently enrolled in our university (including transfer students).

II. Competition Time and Location

Campus Selection Time: From now until 24:00 on May 7, 2025

III. Competition Format

IV. Participation Process

1.Guidance for Participation:

First, visit the registration website and register using your mobile phone number (no need to re-register if you already have an account). Log in after successful registration.

Students can then proceed to answer the questions. It is recommended to use the essay number assigned by their course instructor. Use Google Chrome for optimal performance and avoid Internet Explorer.

Methods for answering:

① In the My Essays section, search for the essay number assigned by your course instructor.

② Click the Student | Start Answering section on the homepage, and in the pop-up window, choose your teacher or enter the essay number to answer.

③ Students without an assigned essay number from their English teacher should search for the essay number 3211572 assigned by Teacher Mei Xuan of the SCUT Competition Organizing Committee. (This method is only for students without an English course instructor or English majors. Otherwise, the essay may not be counted toward the course instructor's regular assessment.)

2.Campus Selection Procedure:

Participants must submit their essays by 24:00 on May 7, 2025. The competition organizing committee will submit the university's writing analysis report by May 8, 2025.

Participating universities may also design their own topics and organize their campus selections independently. If using self-designed topics, specific essay data must be provided.

Participating universities must send detailed information about the participants and their instructors to the organizing committee's contact email by May 16, 2025.

3.Final Round Procedure:

Winners of the special prize in the campus selection will advance to the final round, tentatively scheduled for May 24, 2025, at Guangzhou College of Technology and Business. Participants will write on-site using computers on the Pigai.org platform.

Within two hours after the competition topic is announced, participants may revise and resubmit their work multiple times. The last submission before the deadline will be considered the final entry.

V. Awards

The campus selection will award 3–10 special prizes (including both English majors and non-English majors). For universities with fewer than 1,000 participants, 3 special prizes will be awarded. For every additional 1,000 participants, one additional special prize will be awarded, with a maximum of 10 special prizes per university. First, second, and third prizes will also be awarded, depending on the number of participants. Special prize winners will represent the university in the final round.
