To strengthen the cultivation of talent for international organizations and deepen the understanding of international organization work, the School of Foreign Languages at South China University of Technology will host a special session on competency for international organizations on November 29. This event is organized by the English Club of South China University of Technology.
The event will include the following activities:
1.Sharing experiences of participating in international collaborative research projects, such as the United Nations Micronesia Multi-Country Office and the International Telecommunication Union’s “Digital Transformation in Pacific Island Countries” project.
2.Sharing experiences of building a large-scale database of United Nations system job positions, applying for national-level university student innovation and entrepreneurship projects based on the database, and conducting interdisciplinary academic research leading to the publication of high-level academic papers.
The speakers for the event include:
1.Gao Yujia, an undergraduate student at South China University of Technology, served as a research assistant for the digital transformation project for Small Island Developing States jointly conducted by the United Nations Multi-Country Office and the International Telecommunication Union. She has received the National Scholarship, the National Silver Award in the FLTRP·ETIC Cup Understanding Contemporary China Short Video Competition, and has been recognized as an outstanding intern for the Canton Fair and the Guangzhou Municipal Foreign Affairs Office.
2.Liu Yifei, an undergraduate student at South China University of Technology and a master's student at Nanjing University. During her undergraduate studies, she consecutively won the highest individual award at the China National Model United Nations Conference, served as the head of the secretariat for multiple Model United Nations conferences, published three research papers based on a large-scale United Nations job position database (including one first-authored EI paper), and has one SSCI paper under review. She was recognized as an outstanding trainee in the United Nations Institute for Training and Research internship program and received a letter of appreciation from a national ministry for her volunteer work with international organizations.
3.Chen Yanyan, Associate Professor at South China University of Technology, serves as a project consultant for UNESCO and is the Executive Director of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Global Governance and International Organizations Research Center. She is also the faculty advisor for the South China University of Technology Model United Nations Association. She has received funding from the China Scholarship Council’s Faculty Development Program for International Organizations and has led projects such as “Cultivation and Promotion of International Organization Talent Based on Competency Measurement for International Organizations.”
