In accordance with the thematic arrangement on International Trends and Technological Frontiers outlined in the Implementation Plan for Concentrated Theoretical Learning for Faculty in the School of Foreign Languages in 2025, the College English teaching team held a specialized seminar on March 13, 2025, to advance the key task of AI-Enabled Innovative Models in Foreign Language Teaching. The seminar featured a keynote speech by Huang Zhaozhao, a technical expert from XuetangX, with the participation of Xu Ying, Deputy Dean of the School, Chief Professor Han Jinlong, and all College English faculty members.
Mr. Huang Zhaozhao delivered a presentation titled AI Empowering Education and Teaching, systematically explaining strategies for integrating AI technology into the Academic English curriculum. Through real-time demonstrations, he showcased three core technological applications:
1.Visualization of Knowledge Systems: Building modular knowledge networks based on knowledge graphs to systematically connect academic concepts.
2.Intelligent Competency Assessment: Dynamically linking question maps with competency maps to precisely identify students' knowledge gaps.
3.Three-Dimensional Teaching Scenarios: Creating 3D virtual digital avatars to simulate three professional roles—academic paper reviewers, academic discussion leaders, and international cooperation project heads. These intelligent agents comprehensively help students master academic paper writing norms and techniques, simulate English dialogue practice scenarios, and significantly enhance students' pragmatic language abilities. Focusing on multimodal tools empowering teaching innovation, he provided faculty and students with multiple application scenarios covering daily teaching and learning, such as 24-hour intelligent learning companions, automated grading, intelligent lesson preparation assistants, and question bank development. These advancements elevate AI from an auxiliary tool to a teaching partner, enabling intelligent transformation of courses.
The participating faculty also engaged in in-depth discussions on topics such as How AI Empowers English Teaching and Balancing Technology-Enabled and Traditional Teaching Methods. This seminar marks a new phase in the intelligent transformation of foreign language education at our university. In their addresses, Deputy Dean Xu Ying and Professor Han Jinlong noted that the College English curriculum is among the first in China to utilize AI-enabled technology to construct a teaching system. The teaching team will fully launch the Academic English AI Teaching System in the new semester, establish several teaching and research groups, and leverage AI-enabled academic English teaching as an opportunity to integrate teaching with research. This initiative aims to enhance the teaching and research capabilities of the College English team and develop influential smart education demonstration courses.
