Recently, the winners of the 37th Han Suyin International Translation Competition were officially announced. Lin Yueqin, a 2024 master's student in Japanese Translation, won the second prize in the Japanese-to-Chinese translation category, while Yang Xiying, a 2023 undergraduate student in Business English, secured the third prize in the English-to-Chinese translation category.

With their solid language skills and excellent translation proficiency, the two students stood out among numerous participants and showcased the talent of SCUT School of Foreign Languages students in this high-level international competition. Founded in 1989, the Han Suyin International Translation Competition is the longest-running, largest, and most influential translation contest in China's translation community, often referred to as the Oscars of the translation field.

This year's competition was jointly organized by the Translators Association of China, the Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies, and Dalian University of Foreign Languages. It featured 10 languages and 20 competition categories, receiving a total of 21,656 submissions. These awards not only recognize the translation abilities of the participating students but also reflect the significant achievements of our Student Development Center's long-standing educational philosophy of promoting learning through competition and enhancing teaching through competition.

Our Student Development Center is committed to empowering students' holistic growth. By establishing multi-level academic exchange platforms and forming professional competition guidance teams, it provides comprehensive support for students to participate in high-level domestic and international professional competitions. This approach helps students hone their cross-cultural communication skills, deepen their theoretical understanding, and enhance their overall competencies through the process of promoting learning through competition and applying knowledge through practice.
