The 2020 “FLTRP Cup” National English Writing, Reading and Public Speaking Contest (in the area of Guangdong) was successfully held in Xinhua College of Sun Yat-sen University from 7th to 8th of November. After the campus trials, outstanding students from universities stood out and gathered in the provincial final. At the same time, students also took this opportunity to communicate and learn from each other.

      A total of 605 contestants from 59 universities participated in the three contests. 12 contestants were selected by SCUT to participate in the competition, 11 of whom won the prizes. Yang Hongshen and Li Yijiang, coached by Ms. Zhou Xi, won the special prize of the English Reading Contest which has only three quotas with excellent results and successfully advanced to the national final.

The three FLTRP Cup National English Contests participated by the College English teaching team of the School of Foreign Languages were included in the Chinese University Innovative Talents Training and Discipline Competition List released by the Higher Education Association of the Ministry of Education. The competition has high social recognition and remarkable achievements have been made in promoting education and educating people through competition. Organizing and participating in various foreign language competitions provides a broad stage for students in our school to present their demeanor and realize themselves. It is helpful to cultivating international talents with international vision, innovation consciousness, patriotism and future spirit. It is conducive to guiding college students to strengthen cultural self-confidence, improve comprehensive literacy, and promote discourse expression and the spirit of the era.
