On December 20, 2020, the CCP Branch of the College English Teaching Department of SCUT held a Party Day activity with the theme of “Visiting Xian Xinghai’s Former Residence”. Party members of the branch went to Banmei Village, Lanhe Town, Nansha District, to visit Xian Xinghai’s former residence (Xian Xinghai Memorial Hall) and receive education of traditional revolutionary spirits.

Xian Xinghai is a great musician of China. Born to a fisherman’s family in Macau in 1905, he was known as the “Son of Macau”. After painstaking and diligent exploration, Xian Xinghai has integrated Chinese and Western music techniques to create various popular musical works. He was also a proletarian revolutionary who made great contributions to the cause of the Chinese nation’s War of Resistance. In his lifetime, he composed more than 200 excellent musical works, many of which became a clarion call to awaken the consciousness of national awakening. His masterpiece “Yellow River Cantata” was widely sung in the years of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, greatly boosting the morale of the nation. The memorial hall presents Xian Xinghai’s lofty life aspirations and also condenses his spiritual strength of patriotic dedication.

After visiting Xian Xinghai’s Former Residence, the party members of the CCP Branch of the College English Teaching Department of SCUT were deeply touched.
