In the latest competitiveness ranking of Chinese universities by major in 2020 released by Network of Science and Education Evaluation in China (www.nseac. Com), Business English Major of School of foreign languages of SCUT ranks second. The ranking is a comprehensive evaluation of various universities based on the discipline and major evaluation index system of Chinese undergraduate universities in 2020. The evaluation index system consists of 4 primary indicators: teaching staff, level of teaching, research, and discipline recognition; and 17 secondary indicators: such as the number of teachers, number of doctoral and master’s degrees, and the number of research projects; and 30 tertiary indicators: the number of outstanding talents, the number of awards in national students’ competitions, and the number of projects of the National Natural Science Foundation.
Since 2018, Business English Major has been ranked second in China for three consecutive years. These awards are inseparable from the development and progress of Business English department in talent training, construction of teaching staff, academic development and so on. In the past five years, the teachers of Business English Department of school of foreign languages have undertaken more than 30 research projects and won 3 provincial and departmental teaching awards. More than 50 academic publications, translations and teaching materials have been published, and more than 200 academic papers have been published.
