According to the Guidelines on the Construction of International and Regional Research Center issued by the Ministry of Education, the Research Center for Indian Ocean Island Countries and the India-Pakistan Research Center of South China University of Technology officially announce the launch of assessment and evaluation. In order to strengthen the overall planning, coordination and guidance of the assessment, SCUT International and Regional Research Filing Center held a mobilization meeting in the Conference room 503 of Duxing Building on June 15th. Zhu Min, vice president of the university, attended the meeting and gave a speech.

Zhu Min introduced the construction background of the International and Regional Research Filing Center in Chinese universities and expounded the significance of the assessment. He stressed that the assessment is a review of our university's research in humanities and social sciences, as well as a new opportunity for the development of relevant disciplines, scientific research and international education. To seize the opportunity of occupying the main position in the research field and to have a firm voice and initiative is of great significance for the development of disciplines in the current context.

On behalf of SCUT, he put forward three requirements for the assessment: first, proceeding from the overall development of the university, all personnel should unify their thoughts, improve their understandings, and dedicate themselves to the assessment; Secondly, the center and the school should carefully recognize the requirements of assessment, and ensure the solidity, sincerity and uniformity of the evaluation materials without mistakes or omissions; Thirdly, relevant departments should implement the responsibility, carry out their duties and strive to work solidly and prudentially to ensure the high quality and standard of the assessment.

At the mobilization meeting, the head of the Social Science Department pointed out that though facing the challenges of tight schedule and heavy tasks, the assessment was closely related to the future construction and development of the centers. The university had attached great importance to the assessment. The Social Science Department and other departments and schools will support and assist the centers during the assessment. He also suggested the two centers to earnestly organize the task, strictly implement the plan, fully prepare the evaluation materials and highlight the symbolic achievements, so as to win the battle with good grades and step up to a new stage.

The head of the Think-tank Construction Administration Office introduced the assessment requirements and the work plan at the meeting. An Ran, Director of the India-Pakistan Research Center, and Zhu Xianlong, Deputy Director of the Research Center for Indian Ocean Island Countries, reported on the preparation of the assessment and summarized the existing achievements and major problems. The representatives of relevant departments said that they were fully supportive of the two centers and would actively participate in the assessment.

Principals of School of Foreign Languages, School of International Education, Department of International Exchange and Cooperation, Department of Development Strategy and Planning and related schools attended the meeting.
