Online Teaching in School of Foreign Language: Full of Highlights

In order to widely publicize the highlights of online teaching in various universities during the period of epidemic prevention and control and share experience of typical practices, Guangdong Online Open Course Steering Committee of Undergraduate Colleges and Universities has carried out since February a collection and selection of excellent cases of online teaching during the epidemic.

Up to now, in the previous three activities of collecting and selecting excellent online teaching cases, three excellent ones belonged to our school. Professor Jin Hua’s case study “Introduction to Korean Daily Conversation”, Associate Professor Zhou Pingdi’s case study “Zhuangzi’s Language and Wisdom” and Professor Xu Ying’s case study “Business English” all comprehensively used a variety of online teaching tools and adopted a mixed teaching mode, which greatly met the diverse learning needs of students and played important exemplary roles. Since their teaching effects have been highly praised by Guangdong Online Open Course Steering Committee of Undergraduate Colleges and Universities as well as our peer universities, they were naturally recognized as excellent cases.

During the period of epidemic prevention and control, implementing the principles of teaching, namely “quality, quantity, stability and order”, in accordance with the work requirements of “non-stop classes, non-stop teaching and non-stop schools”, our school quickly formulated the specific plan of implementing online teaching and organized all departments, teaching teams, course principals and every teacher of our school, forming a multi-level and interconnected online teaching operation and quality assurance system. Relying on various online course platforms and the school’s high-quality teaching resources and through various online course teaching methods such as “rain classroom live broadcast”, “Tencent classroom live broadcast”, “MOOC + rain classroom guidance” and MOOC/SPOC, the school has built online courses with more than 200 teaching classes and more than 6000 students, and successfully completed all the teaching tasks for this semester. The deployment and implementation of the online teaching program during the period of epidemic prevention and control have improved the online teaching level of our teachers, stimulated teachers' reflection on the future trend of online teaching, and provided valuable practical experience for promoting higher quality online teaching in the future.
