A novel coronavirus ravaged China all of a sudden. During the period of epidemic prevention and control, the state-level teaching team of college English, under the guidance of schools and colleges, made full use of the advantages of online courses in massive open online course, and developed various online courses such as Rain Classroom Live, Tencent Classroom Live, MOOC plus Rain Classroom Guidance, and MOOC/SPOC with the teaching and learning innovation of the deep integration of information technology and education and teaching. The teaching plans were adjusted according to some certain problems like poor Internet connection, and online courses for more than 200 teaching classes and more than 6,000 students were successfully opened online.
At 8 am on February 24th, our school officially started online teaching. We saw our streamers show up one after another, showing their strengths. Lei Lei, one of the teachers, met her students again in Tencent Classroom. Combining the teaching content of Academic English and the teaching characteristics of the online platform, Lei Lei added massive open online course assisted by SPOC platform. The well-designed curriculum module completely changed the traditional teaching perception, and the interactive use of various media platforms brought rich learning experience to students. This was well received by the students.
Jeff Kirton, a foreign teacher from the United States, first joined the preparations for the academic English course of the college English team. He tried online real-time communication with students through the Internet beforehand. In addition to Jeff Kirton, other foreign teachers in our school also tried hard to adapt to the requirements of online teaching. Besides, other courses offered will also be launched online soon.
Yang Haizhen, the 2018 engineering management class of the School of Civil Engineering and Transportation, and more than 700 other students took the massive open online course called Zhuangzi fable and its wisdom for the third semester in the winter vacation of 2020. That course was lectured by Professor Zhou Pingdi from the School of Foreign Languages. After studying, she said with deep feeling: COVID-19 broke out all over the country. Under the cover of the nest, did Ann have all the eggs? In order not to obstruct the country, society and medical staff in the front line, my family reduced the frequency of going out to buy vegetables, while I stayed at home and used this free time to learn foreign languages and professional knowledge to enrich myself. No years are quiet, it's just that someone carries the weight for you. I hope that the front-line staff will go home safely!
There is no ending bell for Cloud Classroom. Many teachers still need to interact with students through QQ, WeChat and other means after class, giving warmth to students in the hardest hit areas such as Wuhan, and providing targeted tutoring to students who have questions and difficulties in the learning process.
In the face of the epidemic , all the teachers in the School of Foreign Languages rose to the challenges through joint efforts. In order to keep the learning process going and give students the same experience when schools were shut, they have worked hard to fulfil their responsibilities, and contributed their wisdom and strength to the work. They are the living example of educating people with virtue.
