From December 9 to 13, the final of the 2019 FLTRP ETIC Cup English Public Speaking Contest was successfully held in Beijing FLTRP International Conference Center. Xie Yingxin, a 2018 student of the school of law of South China University of Technology, as one of the three representative contestants in Guangdong Province, trained hard and prepared carefully under the guidance of Ma Hui, a teacher of the school of foreign languages. After the competition of the selected topic speech, impromptu speech, speech quiz and question-and-answer section, Xie Yingxin stood out from 180 excellent contestants who won the special prize from all the provinces and regions and won the online competition, and she finally won the second prize of the competition with excellent performance.

The FLTRP Cup National English Speech Contest was jointly organized by Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press, The National Foreign Languages Teaching Advisory Board under the Ministry of Education and The National Advisory Committee on Teaching English Language to Majors in Higher Education under The Ministry of Education. The contest was founded in 2002 and it has been well received both at home and abroad. It has become an English speech contest with the largest number of participants, the largest scale and the highest level in China. With lofty and innovative ideas, the contest brings together outstanding students from all over the country to compete in the art of English expression and communication, and provides a comprehensive platform for college students to display their ability of foreign language, communication and critical thinking.
The College English teaching team of the school of foreign languages has continuously reformed the teaching mode and methods, actively developed the second classroom of English, assisted students to participate in various English competitions and contests, promoted learning through competitions, enhanced the overall improvement of students' foreign language ability, speculative ability and innovative ability, what’s more, it also helped students grow into high-quality international talents with the global vision.
