In the afternoon of June 18, 2019, the Party Branch of the Department of English and the Party Branch of the Research Center for Indian Ocean Island Countries (RCIOIC) jointly held the "Thematic Education Activity of the Party Organization". Keynote Speech on the "Linguistic Justification for Chinese Cultural Confidence"
To begin with, the leaders of the two party branches reported on the recent party building work of the branches. Later, professor Zhong Shuneng, dean of the School of Foreign Languages, gave a report on the theme of "Linguistic Justification for Chinese Cultural Confidence". He believed that language and writing reflect national thinking patterns, and demonstrated this view through the comparison of Chinese and English with respect to spatio-temporal homology, dynamic-complementary structure, diphthongization and article composition. The Chinese language contains the Chinese nation's ancient, integrated and symbiotic thinking confidence, and such confidence in thinking has become an essential justification for cultivating our cultural confidence. The party members and comrades at the meeting had a lively discussion on the theme activities and the special party building work. Everyone unanimously felt the connotation and charm of Chinese cultural self-confidence, and expressed the significance of participating in such thematic educational activities: it not only helped strengthen the cognition of Xi Jinping's socialist thoughts with Chinese characteristics in the new era, but also was an activity that deeply combined the professional research direction of Chinese and foreign languages, so it finally proved to be a very successful party building thematic educational activity.

Vice President Zhu Min spoke highly of the activity. He pointed out that the topic of this "Theme Party Day" activity is well-chosen, which combines height and depth, theory and practice andfully demonstrates the high compatibility of party building work and professional research, and he was very deeply inspired. He hoped that the Party Committee of the College of Foreign Languages could further exert its political core role, think in big-picture terms, ensure stability and seek future development; the Party branch could give full play to its role of fighting fortress, fully reflect the advanced nature of the Party members, take advantage of the special conditions of foreign languages for teaching and educating people, and practice the concepts of "Curriculum Plus Ideology" and"Three-dimension Education"in teaching, research and discipline construction of the college. He emphasized that the party construction work should be carried out in practice, serving the country and society, discipline construction and talent cultivation; it should also be used as the ideological leadership and guarantee to realize the "Double Implementation"of the party construction work and business work, and further promote the construction and development of the school.
